Crisis Management
Published:
Mission: To provide comprehensive management of response to and preparation for crisis events in the life of organizations and their individuals.
Target: Terrorism, workplace violence, serious accidents and natural disasters require immediate response on a substantial scale. Stressful events also include deaths in the workplace or traumatic circumstances. Organizational events such as downsizing and mergers can be traumatic, not only to those who leave, but to those who stay.
Goal: Crisis management has the goal of returning the organization and its team members to full functioning in the shortest time. This is optimal for the recovery of the individual and the team.
Resources: BeamPines Crisis Management Services were developed and are led by Gloria Bullman, Psy.D., a recognized expert in crisis management with many years of leadership and hands-on application in private industry, growing out of her initial work with law enforcement and the fire service. Crisis Management Team members have been selected for their level of experience and expertise in handling the needs of organizations and individuals during crises.
Challenges: When a crisis occurs, the initial challenge is to place the right resources on the ground in the shortest time, while supporting the affected area with operations, communications and basic resources. A secondary challenge, occurring simultaneously, is to communicate this effort through the media in a way that shows team members and the world at large that this is a caring, resourceful, and stable company. The third major challenge is to maintain this effort throughout the event with consistency, until goals are achieved.
Scope:
Crisis Response: From the first notification of the event, our team is mobilizing and consulting with the client company to integrate our interventions into the whole process of recovery.
- Interventions for crisis management and recovery include meetings with individuals and groups. At times, services may be offered to families; this is most likely in huge events such as disasters.
- Problem-solving and support for emotional impact will provide tools and an environment for moving through the crisis situation with a return to full functioning.
- Our crisis team works as an integrated part of the company's crisis team, drawing on the experience and expertise of each member.
- We are able to advise on many of the elements of crisis, drawing on extensive experience in many types of events.
- Communication of support is a key element both internally and externally.
- Perceptions of a company's level of care and support are formed immediately after the beginning of a crisis-emotions, both negative and positive, are formed on those perceptions. Proactive intervention and communication are much more beneficial, both short-term and long-term, than reactive ones.
- In a crisis event, follow-up is beneficial. Our crisis team helps facilitate that with existing resources or custom resources, as needed.
