Angel G. Gomez has a compelling way with people. Through his speeches, workshops, consulting and coaching sessions, he brings to bear a wealth of performance improvement insights that inspire individuals, teams and organizations to higher levels of achievement. His approach, shaped by 15 years of diverse professional experiences, is accented by his passion for helping others find the bearing of their inner compass – their True North.
Before launching his consulting practice and partnering with BeamPines in 2008, Angel served as the Vice President of Human Resources for the Midwest Division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. located in Chicago, Illinois. In that capacity, Angel developed strategies, processes and practices that enabled the $55B business unit to achieve their business objectives by leveraging its human capital. Introduced to BeamPines through their project work with Wal-Mart, Angel was intrigued by the breadth and depth of the Firm’s coaching and assessment competencies the shared values which became evident as the relationship grew. As a result, he agreed to represent the Firm in the Midwest in 2008. Angel previously served as the Director of Associate Training and Communications for Wal-Mart, as well as the Director of Internal Diversity Relations for the Office of Diversity, and was responsible for launching diversity training and the company’s affinity group programs.
Angel joined Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in 2004, after a successful legal career in private practice and the organized bar. Angel practiced as a partner in the law firm of Seyfarth Shaw, LLC, focusing his practice on EEO Compliance Training and Diversity Consulting. Before joining Seyfarth Shaw, Angel was a partner in his own minority-owned law firm, Castro Gomez Durbin & De Jesús, LLC, focusing his efforts on the operations of the Commercial and Tort Litigation practice. From 2001 to 2002, Angel served as National President of the Hispanic National Bar Association, representing the interests of over 25,000 Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors and law students throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Before serving as President, Angel was appointed the National Convention Chairman for the HNBA’s 25th Anniversary Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
Angel received his Juris Doctor in 1994, and his Bachelor of Arts in 1991, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received the College of Law’s 1992 Best Oral Advocate Award and the 1994 Rickert Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy. As a law student, Angel taught an undergraduate public speaking course and coached the undergraduate Mock Trial Team. He also taught as an Adjunct Professor of Appellate Advocacy at Loyola University School of Law in Chicago in 2004.
For his many efforts and accomplishments, Angel was recognized by Hispanic Business Magazine in 2002 as one of the Most Influential Hispanics in the United States.
